Why appraise?

Appraisals satisfy a need.  In most cases, that need is prompted by an insurance broker, a museum, a CPA, legal council or a prospective buyer.  The situations range from renewing insurance policies, moving, loaning artwork to an exhibition, donating a piece to a museum, divorce, estate planning, or part of the process in deciding whether or not to sell a work of art in your collection. As an appraiser I am brought in to assess the current value of artwork as is appropriate to the purpose or task at hand.
